2001-07-07 - 1:17 p.m. Today we had a 3 hour plus bus ride to Granada from Son Roque. People from the hostelerķa were supposed to pack us lunches, but no one knew where they were... so we ended up buying lunch at the bus station. We left our luggage locked up at the bus station during our visit to Granada. We then found out that they gave the food to the bus driver. Ooops! We visisted La Alhambra. It was so beautiful and was so huge. It was a series of palaces on the hill which were used by the rulers, Muslim or Christian whoever was in control at the time. Some parts were used for the summer time and others for the winter. It was really neat because water played such an integral part in the palaces. There was one set of stairs with water running down each side. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to visit it all. We then had some free time to look around the area in La Alhambra. Afterwards, we walked through the town towards the Cathedral and stopped in some of the little stores along the road. I got a handpainted plate with a picture of La Alhambra and the neighborhood in front of it. It was beautiful. We got on the bus at 7 pm to head back to Madrid from Granada. We stopped halfway at a rest stop area and got some snacks and had about 20 minutes to walk around. They were playing the Spanish version of Achy Breaky Heart, and so I ended up showing everyone how to country line dance and they loved it. It was only the part I remembered from dance team try-outs in middle school. It was fun. It was such a contrast to the wedding party going on in the restaurant next door. We got back to Madrid around midnight and then I unpacked and repacked a bit and hit the bed!
