2001-07-05 - 12:57 p.m. In the morning, before class, we took a walk through the town of San Roque. It was really small, but it was really pretty. We went to a museum and walked up to the top to see the whole town and surrounding areas. It used to be the house for their equivalent of like a governor. After the trip, we had the pleasure of returing to take our exam. How exciting! I was sad because I wasn“t able to study some of the things I wanted to study the night before since I was sick. The identifications were over the streets we had seen in our walks through Madrid in class, and that was the one thing I was unable to review over before the exam. I was disappointed, but I am hoping that I got enough points in combination with the essay to come out okay. The essay was worth 65% of our grade, and we had the topic beforehand. I think I did well on the essay. We will see! We then had class for civilization, which was hard because we had to sit for a long time and listen to presentations. We had lunch at the hostelerķa and then went on our excursion to Gibraltar. The excursion to Gibraltar was neat. We had to bring our passports, since we had to cross a border. I was disappointed though because they didn“t stamp our passports. Oh well. We took a cable car to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar, and from the top we could see the Atlantic Ocean to one side, the Mediterranean Sea to the other, and the coast of Africa in front of us. It was so beautiful. We stopped halfway back down to this area where they have monkeys which are freely walking around. It was really cool because you could just walk right up to them and take pictures. They were so cute... and some of them would walk up on the tops of the cars parked in front of the area. It was hilarious what we saw... this one monkey hopped on the top of a car... this man came up and fed him some food... it was not more than 5 minutes later, and the monkey went to the bathroom on the car! It was hilarious. I took a picture of the monkey RIGHT before this happened, so I was glad I didn“t get that in my photo! It was neat though because people in the town spoke both Spanish and English. It is a territory of England, but with it being so close to the border, apparently a lot of people from the Spanish side cross over the border everyday to work. I was quite excited because they sold Dr. Pepper there!! I got myself a Dr. Pepper and a Cadbury bar with caramel and I was set! Dr. Naharro gave us about 2 hours of free time, so we were able to look around a lot and enjoy the city. I ended up buying a really cute shirt at Top Shop which was on sale for 4 pounds. It was really cheap because there is a faint pen mark on the shirt, which will come out in the wash. We went to eat at Burger King too, which was wonderful. We had dinner at the hostelerķa. After dinner, I went to my room and worked on my presentation until 1:30 AM. I didn“t get to sleep until 2 AM.
