2001-07-03 - 12:24 p.m. Today we headed to the southern area of Spain, known as Andalucia. We left out of Atocha here in Madrid to Córdoba on the AVE, which is the Alta Velocidad Lineas de Espańa. So basically, it usually takes something like 5-6 hours by train and it only took us 2. It was really nice. We basically just visited La Mezquita de Córdoba, which is the mosque. It was converted into a cathedral once the Muslims were conquered by the Christians. It was really beautiful. Afterwards, we walked through the town and looked in the little stores up and down the streets. There was one particularly beautiful side-street where a bunch of us took pictures. I managed to slip and fall - classic me! We left Córdoba for Sevilla. We checked in to our hotel, Patios de Sevilla. The rooms were really nice. After checking in, we went ¨tapas bar hopping¨, which is where you just go from tapas bar to tapas bar and eat different appetizers. We were eating from 9 pm to 11 pm and we went to a couple of different places during that time. We then walked downtown to see La Giralda, which was their beautiful cathedral. I was only sad that we didn´t get to see it when it was light outside. I had to buy postcards instead of taking pictures, since they wouldn´t have come out. We loved the A/C we got in our room! It was bad though cause we were so excited that we turned it down waaaaaaay too low. I woke up in the middle of the night shivering with a sore throat. Oooops! I was sleeping on a pullout and I didn´t even think about the fact that I only had a sheet and not a blanket. Sheets are all you want in Madrid. I couldn´t find the blankets in the room. It was 4 AM and I didn´t want to wake up everyone... so I ended up sleeping wrapped up like a burrito in 3 towels. It was interesting! All in all, I enjoyed Córdoba and Sevilla. I just wish we had had more time in Sevilla.
