2003-05-29 - Bath, Stonehenge, & Salisbury

Day 4

We had a slightly earlier start to head to Bath this morning. We started out the day at the Roman Baths. After looking around the Baths, mom and I visited some of the shops. The shops were nice but not as impressive as those in London or as I had remembered from before. I found a nice tea shop and picked up some tea for Patricia.

We looked around a bit to decide where to eat lunch. Mom found a sandwich shop and got a steak pasty. Jon had advised they were something the region was known for. We smuggled her food into the restaurant across the street, where I had “pancakes” and maple syrup. The pancakes were really more like crepes, but were they ever good!

We met back up with the group and headed out for Stonehenge. It was such wonderfully warm weather. Stonehenge was equally impressive the second time around. We took some great pictures and I found a beautiful black and white print at the gift shop to put up in my apartment.

We had a short twenty minute drive to the Salisbury Cathedral. There was a service going on so we were able to hear the music while looking through the Cathedral. It made for quite an impressive experience.

Dinner was excellent: honeydew melon with raspberry syrup, fish and chips, and cheesecake garnished with fresh berries. I think this was definitely one of my favorite meals. I believe I ate every bit of it!

We returned to the hotel and went to the Internet café. Lots of emails! I still have not heard back from Alex, but I am hoping that she is still meeting me on Saturday. Alex is a friend of my friend Amy, who interned with me at Citibank. She went to school at USF with Amy and I had met her on several occasions. She is from France so I am looking forward to the opportunity to hopefully meet up with her!

We went to Sainsbury’s and bought snacks for the Eurostar and some Solero ice cream bars (yum – the best!). After packing for our early departure on Friday, we turned in at the hotel.
